Cold plunge therapy is a technique where the body is submerged in chilled water, also known as cold-water immersion. The water is chilled 50°F and 59°F (10°C to 15°C) allowing for accelerated full body recovery.
Depending on the demographic of the patient and level of experience, the “plunge” ranges from 1 to 5 minutes. During this time, it’s important to control your breathing, focusing on breathing from deep in the belly while also relaxing the muscles and keeping the body moving. The coldness of the water will make your body tense up, so patients are encouraged to wiggle their fingers, move their toes and feet, and roll their neck and shoulders.
